Four Formats of Indian Rummy

Indian Rummy has three popular formats: Points Rummy, Deals Rummy and Pool Rummy,  Each of these formats has its own set of rules. Since the launch of the online rummy game, it has become very easy for enthusiasts to enjoy their favorite formats of the game anytime, anywhere. 

Rummy is a great source of entertainment whether you are sitting idle at home, or traveling or taking a short break from work. Let’s look at the formats of the game that you can play online and have fun.  

• Points Rummy 

This variant of 13-card rummy is a single-deal variant of the game. The game is played for points, which have a predetermined monetary value (in cash games). Points are calculated based on the cards you have in your hand. The player who makes a valid declaration first with 0 points wins. This is the most popular and the fastest variant of Indian Rummy. 

• Pool Rummy 

Pool Rummy, also known as Syndicate, is also a variant of 13-card rummy where the entry fee deposited by players forms a prize pool. The aim of the game is to get minimum points. A group of 2-6 players can play Pool Rummy. There are two types of Pool Rummy games: 101 Pool and 201 Pool. In both these formats, your aim is to keep your score as low as possible and lower than 101 and 201, respectively. If your score reaches 101 or 201, you get eliminated from the game. 

• Deals Rummy 

This rummy variant is played for a fixed number of deals. You are to score the least number of points in these deals. Deals Rummy has three formats: Best of 2, Best of 3, and Best of 6. The game ends in as many deals as the numeric value of the format. The rules are the same for all three formats, i.e., to score the least number of points in the respective number of deals. 

• Rummy Tournaments

Rummy tournaments are the most competitive format of the Indian Rummy game. It needs you to progress to higher levels to win a big prize from the prize pool. Tournaments can be either freerolls or cash tournaments. The difference between the two is the entry fee. A freeroll does not require you to pay any fee but a cash tournament does. We would advise you to try your hand at freerolls before playing cash tournaments.
