If we talk about calendars, we all know that there are 12 months, 52 weeks and 365 days in a year. 

Although coincidental, these aspects are interconnected with each other as follows: 

2 colors (red and black): The two primary colors in a card deck symbolize day and night.

4 suits: The four suits correspond to the four seasons of the year, which are spring, summer, fall and winter.

13 values of cards: The cards ranging from ace through king correspond to 13 weeks in a quarter and 13 lunar cycles.

52 cards: A pack of 52 cards corresponds to the 52 weeks in a year.

12 courts: The court cards (Ks, Qs and Js) correspond to 12 months in a year. 

Another interesting coincidence is that when you add up all the values of the cards with ace as one, 2s as 2, through to kings as 13, you will get a total of 364. When you add a joker card with a numeric value of one, you will get a total of 365, which equates to the total number of days in a year. And if you add one more joker to it, you will get 366, which is equal to the number of days in a leap year! 

Regardless of whether this is coincidental or intentional, this symbolism does make for a great story!
