How to Survive with a Bad Hand in Online Rummy

Rummy is a skill game that requires you to utilize your skills and expertise to win. However, the outcome of your game also depends on the cards you are dealt. In online rummy, you are dealt 13 cards, one at a time. Every player gets dealt certain types of hand, such as good, difficult or bad. Regardless of the type of hand you get, your skills and expertise in rummy games can help you turn the tables around.

Players often get anxious when they are dealt a bad hand. They presume the outcome of the game and make some hasty decisions that result in a heavy loss. But did you know that you can still save your game despite having a bad hand? In this blog post, we explore how you can sail through weak cards in an online rummy game.

  1. Master bluffing

What comes to your mind when you hear the word “bluffing”? A few Bollywood fans may instantly relate it to the movie “Bluffmaster,” starring Abhishek Bacchan and Ritesh Deshmukh. And for some others, it will remind them of card games such as poker and bluff. In card games, bluffing is nothing but deceiving your opponents by displaying certain emotions or by throwing a useful card to obtain a desired one.

While bluffing may sound easy, it might be difficult to perform in an actual game setting. When it comes to online rummy, this trick can help you sail through a bad hand very smoothly.

For example, if you are dealt a bad hand, you can make your opponent think that you have good cards. You can try and trick your opponent into discarding a card you need and turn the game in your favor. However, you must play as many practice games as possible to avoid getting tricked by your opponent while bluffing during an actual game.

  1. Analyze the cards in your hand

As soon as the cards are dealt, you should sort the cards in your hand and analyze them before playing your first move. This is a crucial step in an online rummy game because it will not only help you create a game strategy but also save you from incurring a heavy penalty in case your opponent declares before you.

For example, you are dealt a bad hand and you continue to play without analyzing the cards in your hand. If your opponent declares his hand, you are likely to lose by a big margin.

However, the analysis of cards is not limited to your hand but also your competitor’s cards and moves. Your analysis and observation skills can provide you with an upper hand in the game and even help you win with a bad hand.

  1. Discard ungrouped high-value cards

In an Indian rummy game, face cards (Ks, Qs, and Js), aces (A’s) and 10s are considered as high-value cards as they are worth 10 points. When players are dealt a bad hand consisting of multiple high-value cards, it is vital to discard them at the earliest if they remain ungrouped. This is because if your opponent declares before you, you will gain a high penalty for having too many ungrouped high-value cards in hand.

And if you are playing rummy for real money, you will have to give away a large amount of your hard-earned money to your opponent. In order to avoid losing high stakes, you should consider discarding ungrouped high-value cards as early as possible.

  1. Drop out of the game

Online rummy provides you with an opportunity to quit the game without incurring a heavy penalty. This can be done by using the “Drop” option available on your game screen. If you drop out of the game without playing your first move, it will be considered the first drop and it will cost you only 20 points. If you drop out of the game after playing the first few moves, it will be considered as a middle drop that costs you 40 points.

The drop option is quite useful when you are dealt bad cards in a cash game. You can quit the game and save your money, which can be used in subsequent rummy games.

You can learn and implement the above-mentioned tricks while playing rummy for cash. However, we encourage you to play as many practice games as possible before moving to cash tables.
