Rummy Master Class: Using Bait in Rummy

Trapping your opponents in online rummy is an exceptional skill, one that you can use to trick your opponents and gain the upper hand by fooling your opponents into submission.

However, it’s a skill which takes time to master, which is why we have come up with the series, titled ‘Master Class’ to teach you the most closely guarded secrets which the pros use to win a game.

The series will help you better understand the game and how professionals use these secret techniques while squaring off against equally experienced players.

The first video deals with the subject of baiting, which is often used as a trick move and will help you deal a decisive blow in a game of rummy.

If you are interested in learning more, do check out the first video in our series which delves into the subject of baiting and how you can master it:

Here’s how it works. At the start of a game, observe your cards closely and find out if you have cards that you can connect to form a pure sequence.

So, if you have a Queen, Jack or Ace of Hearts, keep a lookout at whether the king of hearts appears on the open deck or not. In case it doesn’t, you can safely assume that your opponents probably have the said card in question.

This is where baiting comes in; the trick is to force your opponent into discarding the king of hearts by making them believe that you do not need the card they possess.

Therefore, what you need to do is dump either the Jack or the Ace of hearts. Doing this will most likely make your opponent believe that there is no possibility of you forming a sequence and your opponent will most likely discard the king of cards.

Once your opponent has discarded the card, you can pick it up and use it to form your sequence. This is what baiting is all about. Even though it sounds pretty simple, it takes practice to master the skill of baiting.
