Sushant Singh Rajput has come a long way from his humble origins in Patna.
The actor who started as a dancer in Shiamak Davar’s dance group decided to become an actor when he found his true calling.
Humble Beginning
Sushant's tryst with acting began in college when he was pursuing engineering in the prestigious Delhi Technological University (formerly Delhi College of Engineering) and ended up joining Barry John’s acting classes.
He was first spotted by talent scouts when he was a part of Nadira Babbar’s Ekjute theatre group.
He auditioned and landed his first role on a television show titled Kis Desh Mein Hai Mera Dil.
However, his first major television stint was when he played the role of Manav Deshmukh in Pavitra Rishta, which turned him into an overnight sensation of the Indian small screen. It was a role that won him not just accolades from the Indian audiences, but numerous awards as well, including the coveted Indian Television Academy Awards.
Bu Sushant's hunger to achieve more and his creative zest forced him to quit the show in 2011 and head overseas to pursue a course in film making.
Making of a Superstar
Sushant Singh Rajput’s big break came in the form of Kai Po Che, a critically acclaimed movie by Abhishek Kapoor where his portrayal of Ishaan Bhatt earned him heaps of accolades from leading movie critics across India.
The role helped him gain a solid foothold in the Hindi film industry when he ended up winning both the Producers’ Guild Film Award and a Screen Award for Best Male Debut in 2014.
He then went on to act in commercially successful movies such as Shudh Desi Romance, PKand Detective Byomkesh Bakshi, all of which got him even more critical acclaim as an actor.
However, his most significant break came in the form of MS Dhoni: The Untold Story in which he played the real-life role of MS Dhoni, the legendary cricketer and former captain of the Indian Cricket team.
His performance was stellar in the movie, and the movie received both commercial success and critical acclaim. It went on to become one of the highest grossing movies of 2016 and established Sushant as a superstar in the making.
Sushant Singh Rajput is one of those few stars who have a common man appearance and connects well with the Indian audiences.
His charismatic personality, coupled with his acting skills that rival even stars who have been around for a much longer period than him, allowed him to carve his place in the industry within a very short period.
The Road Ahead
He will be next seen in Sonchiriya, playing the role of Lakhna. It's an intense, gripping story about a gang of rebels who defy all odds fighting for their beliefs.
The film, which is turning eyeballs even before its release, has already got both Indian audiences and critics excited.
Sushant Singh Rajput has come a long way as an actor, and he still has a long way to go.
We hope that this actor, who has both skills and looks to become the next superstar, achieves all the success and keeps playing roles that we can not only connect with, but also remember for a long time after we have left the theater.
