The more familiar with the rules, the better will be our game. Keeping that in mind, we have curated the list of all the key rules of Rummy for you to make you a pro in the Rummy card game.
Before we start, you should know that in the Indian Rummy game, we use a standard deck of 52 cards and one printed Joker. Each player gets 13 cards, and this version of the game is called 13-card Indian Rummy.
Logic - Fair play is a vital part of each game. To ensure that each player gets a fair crack of the whip, cards are drawn randomly from the deck in Rummy. The sequence is decided by the values of the cards drawn.
Logic - This is to ensure every player gets equal opportunity in the Rummy games. By initiating the open pile, the first player also gets the chance to choose between open card and closed card. It has been observed that careful observation of this move gives opponents some idea about the first player’s hand.
Logic - In the game of Rummy, it is always skill over luck. Think of a situation where you have to discard a card before you know what you are going to pick… wouldn’t that be scary! Also, the absence of such rules can affect the calculations of a player.
Logic - Rummy has always been the game of Skills. Connecting it to luck or chance will kill the vibe which intellectual players connect with this game. This rule allows players to calculate their win & lose ratio. It helps them to save their points and restrict the loss to bare minimum by dropping the card even during the game.
Logic - This rule came in action to limit the use of Jokers cards by a player. Without this rule, if a player has ‘n’ number of Joker cards, then he/she can instantly announce their victory & end the game. To keep the game of Rummy exciting & interesting, this rule came into play.
Logic - Indian Rummy game has a very systematic way of counting points of each player. The point system defines the hierarchy of the cards. Talking about value/ point of each card:
Logic - Ace can be put to use both as the first card as well as the last card. So, it can be the first card used before 2 and the highest card used after the king. This dual use of ace in Rummy brings flexibility in the game and makes it even more interesting.
Logic - In Rummy, if the printed joker comes out as the Wild Card Joker then the Aces are used as Wild Card Jokers. Aces are chosen for this role because next to Jokes, Aces are the most versatile card (Remember, they can be used both as the first card and the last card). Also, this rule was introduced to safeguard the players’ interest so that they have enough number of Jokers during the Rummy game. Without Jokers, the game would be lil tricky and dreary.
Logic - This rule adds complexity as well as mystery to the game. It makes Rummy a thought-provoking game as it confuses the player why the other player has dropped such a useful card. Also, it prevents the player from any sort of loss if he/she has dropped the card accidentally.
Logic - This rule is introduced to assure that the player plays Rummy honestly & responsibly. It keeps the player alert and encourages the habit of double-checking all the sets & sequences before declaration.
